ApeiroRA Presents at NordiCHI 2026
Researchers Present "ApeiroUI" – Solving Cloud DevOps Fragmentation Through Unified Visual Interface
On October 3, 2026, our team members Boris Müller (Urban Complexity Lab, University of Applied Sciences Potsdam) and Oliver Opaterni (SAP Innovation Center Potsdam) presented their cutting-edge research at the 14th Nordic Conference on Human-Computer Interaction (NordiCHI 2026) in Vaasa, Finland.
Their paper, "ApeiroUI – a Visual Interface for Cloud Infrastructure: Bridging Fragmentation in Cloud DevOps Through Designing a Unified Visual Infrastructure Interface," addresses a critical challenge facing modern development and operations teams. Modern cloud environments suffer from extensive tool fragmentation, where teams rely on numerous dashboards, command-line interfaces (CLI), and monitoring tools. DevOps engineers frequently switch contexts, manually correlate information, and maintain mental models across disparate systems. An error-prone and cognitively demanding process.
The ApeiroUI project tackles these challenges through research contributing to the broader ApeiroRA initiative on next-generation cloud infrastructure. The team developed an innovative prototype that demonstrates how a unified visual interface can improve cloud infrastructure management while preserving existing toolchains.
"Early feedback indicates both a need and an openness of DevOps engineers for greater integration of cloud management tools through a unified visual user interface without discarding existing toolchains," the researchers note. The inclusion of a context-based AI assistant further demonstrates how emerging technologies can improve usability. Not by replacing human operators, but by supporting them with context-aware information and actions.
The research addresses industry trends highlighted in the 2024 DORA report, which emphasizes the growing need for unified internal platform tooling.
